PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Sunday 28th September saw a milestone for our club, our 200th member Amanda Loader. A 4 year evolution from our club’s humble beginnings under the leadership of Bill Wollin through to Carole and Alan Farrell and every committee member and club member sees us where we are today, so well done to everyone. And while we are on the well done’s, any member competing at SALT on 12/10 please feel free to offer a good word to Travis Ireland for the Corporate Challenge Series. Without Travis’s support over the past 10 years our Gold Coast racing scene would have looked rather bleak. The Mirage Run saw some great age group results for our members. Peter O’Sullivan 1st Bomber 1st Kelly Nolan 1st Les Rootsey 1st Lorrie Bishop 1st Yvonne Delaney 1st Steve Gamble 2nd Alan Farrell 2nd Nadia Styles 2nd Steve Tesic 2nd Josef Ruzic 3rd and our champion walkers Andrew and Michelle Lake 1st and 2nd.

Our Turkey Trot 28/9 was well attended and Yvonne Delaney used her years of experience to beat Alisa Bradford by 1 second. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we will do this again sometime next year.

The end of October sees the 2nd running of the Red Mile. Most runners know their 10k time, why not find out your mile time? Are you another Roger Bannister? Find out 26/10.

The Committee is in the process of putting together next year’s calendar; any suggestions/ideas are always welcome.

Good Running/Walking – Alan Whittle

I am 69 years of age partner of  Helen

I have been involved in running since …… 1995.  But since I was very young, I had to walk everywhere, often many kilometers, as we did not have any transport in the village.  When I was in the army, I trained for 8 months for the State Championships and came 5th from 1500 soldiers, so I did not qualify and I thought I would not run again.

My most memorable running experience was.. running the Midnight Sun Marathon in Tromso, Norway in 2006.

My running achievements are…

  • 13 Brisbane half marathons
  • 11 Gold Coast half marathons
  • 11 Noosa half marathons
  • 5 Red Rock  - 45km
  • Great Ocean beach Runs
  • First marathon Sydney Host city Marathon, before the Olympics
  • Tromso, Norway, Midnight Sun Marathon
  • Also many fun runs

What I love about running…it is relaxing, meeting people and making friends and motivation

My favorite holiday destination is… Canadian Rockies and the Adriatic Coast in Croatia

Favorite Movie…My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Favorite Food …Seafood

Philosophy on Life… Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.  Show appreciation and love and respect the people in my life and always wear a smile J
